The Story Behind the Bait

Before Uncle Josh Fishing was a name on a jar, it was just a guy named Josh who loved spending early mornings by the water. He wasn’t chasing the latest trends or expensive gear — he cared about one thing: getting bites. Over the years, he noticed that while everyone was chasing new plastics and high-tech lures, the old-school pork baits kept pulling fish in like nothing else.

Josh started making his own pork bait at home. He mixed, tested, and adjusted the recipes in his garage, learning what made fish bite and what didn’t. His approach was straightforward — no fancy additives, no hype — just bait that worked in real conditions. He shared it with friends, family, and local anglers who quickly saw the difference.

The word spread quietly but steadily. People appreciated that Uncle Josh’s baits weren’t about flash or marketing tricks. They were about simple, effective fishing tools that held scent, stayed on the hook, and performed well in all kinds of water. Today, Uncle Josh Fishing is still run with that same no-nonsense attitude, making baits that anglers trust from quiet ponds to big rivers.

It’s a reminder that sometimes, sticking to what works beats chasing what’s new — and that a good day on the water starts with the right bait.

You Asked, We Answered

What kind of bait does Uncle Josh make?

Uncle Josh is best known for pork baits — especially pork rind trailers for jigs, spinnerbaits, and other setups. We also offer other traditional baits built around the idea that if it’s worked for decades, it’s worth keeping in your tackle box.

Are your baits good for cold water fishing?

Yes. Pork baits actually shine in colder water. While soft plastics can stiffen up in the cold and lose their action, pork stays flexible and keeps moving naturally. That lifelike motion and scent retention can make a big difference when fish are sluggish.

Do you ship outside the U.S.?

At the moment, we only ship within the United States. We know folks outside the U.S. are asking for access, and we’re looking into international shipping options. For now, if you’re outside the U.S., keep an eye out — we’re working on it.

How should I store pork baits?

Always store pork baits in their original jar, fully covered in the brine they come in. Keep the lid sealed tight when you’re not using them, and don’t leave them out in the sun or wind. Once they dry out, they’re tough to bring back — so it’s worth keeping them sealed between uses.

Can I reuse pork baits after fishing?

Absolutely. If the bait is still soft and hasn’t torn up too badly, just drop it back in the jar with the brine and use it again. A lot of anglers get multiple uses out of a single bait — just rinse off any dirt or debris first if needed.

Are Uncle Josh products made in the USA?

Yes, every Uncle Josh bait is made right here in the United States. We’ve stuck to that since the beginning, and we’re not planning on changing that. It’s about keeping things consistent, reliable, and rooted in the way we’ve always done it.
